Winter Gallop

Description

Magnolia Plantation

Mary adjusted the new black leather reins between her fingers, gloves protecting her fingers from the bite of the chill. Geneva, the little exotic mare, had been relaxing for most of the summer as Oz toured Europe, but in the spring Geneva was due to enter her first three day event. Therefore while Elizabeth and Daniel were away, the duties of training the precocious pony had fallen to Mary, the barn's owner and manager.

After a few weeks of groundwork, Geneva had already gained most of her muscle tone back that she'd lost, but it was time to take her out on the trails to build her stamina. Mary guided the alert mare past the far pastures and onto the hunt course, which had been built hundreds of years previous. Huge, solid log obstacles, banks, and brush were interspersed throughout the forest inside the plantation walls.

With a squeeze, Mary urged the buckskin mare into a canter, directing her to a single log to get her accustomed to the surface and surroundings. Geneva tucked her knees and jumped beautifully, making Mary shake her head and laugh.

"You are a good little pony. I'd almost forgotten how talented you are."

Geneva nodded as Mary pulled her up, wanting to continue. Directing the mare onto the actual course, gingerly asking for a hand gallop as they headed off into the brightly colored woods.

This is actually what South Carolina looks right now! Fall usually occurs in the winter here, as it's in the mid-60's this week, for instance. :XD:

I am so happy to finally begin training Geneva! She really is a great little mare and I think she will go far.

This is gorgeous! I love Geneva's colouring/shading, the pose is great and the way the background is slightly abstract really adds to the movement!
