Hector Falls for Troy

Hector was described as "the greatest fighter for Troy"; he fought Achilles knowing that he was doomed, but determined to die fighting and a hero. Achilles then parades Hector's fallen body in front of his comrades, a grave insult. After many days, Achilles releases the body for a price, and the King himself comes to reclaim Hector's body, restoring his dignity.

Hopefully the king will come and reclaim Champs and restore his dignity.

Watch King Priam's speech for Hector here and here in succession. It is one of the greatest speeches in human history.

Read about Hector here, and The Trojan War here.

This is for the "What If..." contest :aww:

What's going on is Champs is gazing off towards where he came from, the giant Oak, and Flash approaches him on his blind side. This takes Champs by surprise, causing his to open his eyes wide and split his healing eye. His eye bleeds in the last panel. Flash isn't necessarily trying to turn him against Darko, he's just saying things to barb Champs. Champs is obviously physically stricken, his injuries preventing him from fleeing or fighting. His morale begins to wane as well, his will to return home dwindling as the months drag on.

He had come to know life in Flash's herd as surprisingly dull. After his brutal beating from the herd's punishing pack, his days were filled with mostly quiet respite. Flash did not harm him, the "pack" did not pay him any mind. The herd altogether ignored his presence.

The burning tear in his hind tendon left him lame and listless, walking becoming a feat of great tribulation. His hoof had sustained a large and crippling crack from the base to its coronet, and he was loathe to put any weight on it at all. He took to laying in the grass within eye distance of the herd, taking care to stay in sight to avoid another assault. Without any duties or socialization, he focused his remaining energy on nursing a gash on his neck that had ripped his mane from its roots, resulting in white hair growing from the scar tissue. His chestnut had been ripped from his flesh by angry teeth, leaving a deep crusty scab that throbbed when he bent his foreleg.

But his worst injury was one that was leaving him partially blind. His eye had been cut vertically through the center, instantaneously leaving him blind. A blue haze had begun to creep in, signifying his permanent affliction. It was useless, and his eyelids felt thick and tight. It tormented him. Every so often he would forget and open his eye too wide, dart his pupils too fast, and he would pay the price. Often he limped around with bloody tears streaking his face.

When he couldn't avoid his thoughts anymore, he was confronted with a flood of emotion. Where was Darko? George? Betrayal flashed across his subconscious as he remembered Rose breaking through the trees at dusk. Had Darko really forsaken a member of his trusted guard for a mare? Anger began to roil in his stomach, but he thrust it back, calling on his most logical thoughts. Rose was with foal. He was a young, able stallion. No one knew his condition. His terrible, terrible condition. He forced his mind away from the incident.

Another one of his past-times was watching members of the herd. Violet was a feisty mare with a strong heart, but her willingness to please had allowed Flash to take dominion over her. Ace was the only stallion who rivaled Flash's intelligence, but his physical limitations made him a servant, not a leader. Flash was truly genius. He was able to manipulate everyone around him. His arrogance weakened him, but his size made him unconquerable.

These observations revealed to him how lonely he was, and how it appeared that neither herd wanted anything to do with him.

I named this piece "Hector Falls for Troy" because both Hector and Champs are martyrs for their cause, although Champs has not (presumably) perished. Hector is eventually rescued by King Priam himself, and it is my hope that Champs will also be saved before it is to late. It would be a shame if he harbored resentment for Troy for inadvertently keeping the search party away.

Poor Champs! Sorry I was so mean to him, Alice ^^; He really is one of my favorite characters in your comic!
His chestnut is gone in the front, he has a big ol' gash in his neck (which is the reason for the white streak in his mane - this page assumes he has been gone awhile), a surface cut on his canon, a gnarly crack in his hoof, and little nicks on his hip.
Flash is referring to his ability to leave because his tendon in the rear has been torn by Flash's goonies :crying:
Ladies and gents, want a cool foggy blue eye like Jack? Voilà! This is one in progress. They're not as glamorous as you think :P
Oh, and his mane and tail are so super long because wild horses keep their hair short by stepping on it and getting it caught on things, none of which Champs does because of his immobility. :aww:

And Alice, I'm so sorry for butchering your beautiful backgrounds :noes: I liked the challenge of painting rocks though! They're fun! :D

I hope you like it
